As the landscape of the Cap de Creus was so vital to his life and work, the personality of Salvador Dalà is naturally a key aspect of Time+Space Cadaqués. Therefore in order to provide unique and apt insight into DalÒs work, contemporary artists will also be invited to participate in the Time+Space experience, and to spend time with guests explaining their own artistic practise and how it relates to those of Dalà and other artists that lived and worked in Cadaqués.
Casa DalĂ
Casa DalĂ, a minute’s walk away, is a key place to explore during your stay with us. The house was Salvador DalĂ’s only fixed abode from 1930, when attracted by the landscape, the light and the isolation of the Port Lligat bay, he moved into what was no more than a small fisherman’s hut. Over the years DalĂ constructed each of the additional rooms of the house, resulting in the labyrinthine structure as it stands today, packed with a multitude of objects and mementoes belonging to DalĂ and his wife Gala.
Theatre-Museum DalĂ, Figueres
The capital of the Alt Emporda region, Figueres, is most known worldwide for being the site of the Theatre-Museum DalĂ, which houses a great deal of the painter’s works. Salvador DalĂ decided, early in the 1960’s, to construct his museum inside the ruins of the old Municipal Theatre of Figueres, and he dedicated himself to the task for over a decade, designing the smallest details until the official inauguration on 28th September 1974. The Theatre-Museum DalĂ, the largest surrealistic object in the world, now contains the broadest range of works spanning the artistic career of Salvador DalĂ and also includes works that the artist created expressly for the space, such as the Mae West Room. DalĂ was also keen to include works by other artists, including El Greco and Marcel Duchamp amongst others. The museum has to be seen as a whole, as the great work of Salvador DalĂ, for everything in it was conceived and designed by the artist in order to offer visitors a chance to explore his surreal and unique world.
Art Classes
Some of the contemporary artists joining us on the Time+Space Cadaqués holiday may also like to offer painting and art or photography classes for those guests that would like to explore their own creative impulses! This will be on a slightly ad hoc basis and dependent on the specific artist and Time+Space weekend.
