Location
The town of Cadaqués is situated on a bay near the Cap de Creus peninsula, at the North Eastern most corner of Catalonia. Cadaqués is only a two hour drive from Barcelona, although the road access from Figueres is windy and mountainous, making Cadaqués feel remote and untouched (the road to Cadaqués was only built in 1908). Ses Vistes house and the Casa Dalà are situated at Port Lligat, a small bay next to the village of Cadaqués.
Cadaqués
Cadaqués is a Mediterranean fishing village with a fascinating history. Famed as being spiritual home to the great painter Salvador DalÃ, the village also has a wider reaching cultural heritage and is recognised as an important centre for the twentieth century avant-garde; artists including Marcel Duchamp, Pablo Picasso, Man Ray, and Richard Hamilton who have all spent time in Cadaqués. To reflect this, Time+Space Cadaqués will provide a specially curated tour of the town that will give a sense of the unique creative pull of the area. Local artists will also open up their private studios to us, giving a sense of the artistic community working in the area today.
Cap de Creus
As the last outlet of the Pyrenees and most easterly point of the Iberian Peninsula, the Cap de Creus with its lighthouse is a particularly important point in the nautical charts. Of artistic note, the rugged and distinct landscape was a major inspiration to Dalà and the rock formations provided the backdrop to many of his paintings.
Walking, scuba diving and boat trips
The Cap de Creus is the only nature reserve in Spain that covers both land and sea, and the area is renowned as an underwater paradise for divers, with a diving school nearby. Should guests be keen to dive we can easily assist in setting this up. It is also possible to take walks of varying length and difficulty through the nature reserve, and depending on the weather, guests can even charter a boat to explore the remote rocky enclaves by sea. Again, although this is not a fixed part of the Time+Space Cadaqués itinerary, we are more than happy to help you arrange this.
